Illinois Library Systems 40th Anniversary Stories
- This year marks a very special time for Illinois Library Systems. On August 17, 1965, the Library System Act was signed into law. In the two years that followed, 18 Regional Library Systems were ultimately formed to facilitate library services to the citizens of Illinois. To commemorate the establishment of systems and to recognize what has been accomplished, we are asking guests to leave stories about how library systems have made a difference in the Illinois library landscape. For example, many public libraries in Illinois were formed as a result of system sponsored federal demonstrations grants. Resource sharing initiatives including automation programs have helped libraries of all sizes serve their constituencies with much larger collections than would have been possible without regional library systems. Tell us your library's story. Go on the record and note for all to see how Illinois' Regional Library Systems have made a difference.
Thank you so much for taking a moment to celebrate this momentous occasion with the entire library community!
