Illinois Library System Highlights
- Increased participation in regional
shared online catalogs and expanded services such as electronic resource
sharing, user-initiated interlibrary loan, self-checkout, self-renewal,
homebound module, e-mail notices, and downloadable audiobooks and
videos.
- Provided regular communication with librarians and trustees
on issues of importance to daily work.
- Operated the Fund for Illinois Libraries, enabling libraries
to receive donations from individuals or organizations which only
donate to a 501(c) 3 charitable organization. Total donations in
FY2009 exceeded $100,000.
- Aggregated the voices of library advocates for telling the "library
story" to library users, governing officials, and legislators at
the local, state, and national levels.
- Expanded Cataloging Maintenance Centers to assure uniformity
of records and adherence to international standards in Illinois’
electronic library catalogs.
- Advised local librarians and governing officials on expansion
of services, management, USA PATRIOT Act, grant opportunities, new
technologies, and universal service discounts (E-Rate).
